Type X errors
The properly maintained Mac is very reliable and will give very few errors, however if your Mac is giving you Type XX errors, they can be very frustrating. Check below for a few tips on eradicating these errors.
Type 10 and 11 errors
This error generally only happens in PowerMacs running System 7.6, 7.5.5 or 7.5.3. It is a bug in the 68K emulator and can only be resolved by upgrading to System 7.6.1 or newer. I suggest if you are running a PowerMac, that you upgrade your RAM to at least 32 megs and install System 8 or later for optimal performance. System 8 is available in most major computer retailers and via mail-order.
Type 1, 2, and 3 errors
These can be resolved in one of two ways.
Disable all 3rd party extensions and control panels using the Extensions Manager inside of your control panels folder. Then check to see if the error continues to come up. Also check to see if you have maintained functionality of the computer. Check to see if you can still print and the modem dials. Re-enable control panels until such time as the error pops back up again. Then you may use your Extensions manager to create a "Safe Set " that will not give you problems.
Click one time on the program that is giving you the error. Go to the File Menu and go to Get Info. On the lower right hand side is a preferred size. You may try raising that in increments of 1000 until the problem disappears or you run out of memory. Make sure that the program is closed when attempting this and that you are clicking on the actual program, not an alias or a folder.
